Back on her feet, Amanda takes the wolf to see Garrison.
The opening of the door had woken Kane from his light nap, and he groaned as he rolled over and a thousand tiny injuries squeaked brief moments of pain at him. He shuffled himself up to a seated position as the wolf barged through the bedroom door, racing around to his side of the bed excitedly. Kane put out his arm as the wolf reared back, bracing his legs on the edge of the bed so he could muzzle and lick at Kane's face.
"Hey- ok, ok! It's ok, bud!" He said, feebly trying to push him back a bit, especially as the wolf tried to angle to get part of his head on his mouth. "Off, off, you slobbery pain..."
There was a chuckle from the doorway and then a brief, sharp whistle." C'mon, boof. You'll hurt him if you keep on," Amanda told the wolf, slapping the side of her leg. The witch still looked tired, but was obviously doing much better than Garrison was.
"I keep forgetting how strong he is without my powers." Kane said as the wolf reluctantly backed off. He wasn't trained in any normal sense, but he tended to listen to commands from the people he liked. Mostly. Instead, he grumbled and mmrphed to himself as he came around to the end of the bed.
"I think he's having trouble remembering the same thing," Amanda agreed, scritching the wolf between the ears as she came into the bedroom. "Yeah, I know, but we had a deal. No roughhousing," she lightly scolded him, but gave him a chunk of dehydrated turkey meat from the bag in her pocket anyway. "How are you feeling?" she continued to Garrison, sitting on the edge of the bed. "You look like total shite."
"You should see the other guy. I mean, he actually doesn't look that bad..." He shook his head before reaching for his water bottle and taking a long swig. "I know it is a cliche, but it looks a lot worse than it feels. Pretty much everything was surface level. Once the little cuts heal and the bruising calms down, I'll be basically fine by next week."
"So, better than you deserve. I know I said that nature doesn't want you to die yet, but bloody hell, I didn't think you'd test it out quite so graphically." Amanda shook her head, fondly. "But if you hadn't, none of us would be here, so yeah. That's the scolding."
"Hey, it wasn't my first choice. I might be terminal right now, but I've got no desire to make it happen any sooner than I have to." Kane said with a shrug. "I have a date coming up soon, after all."
"You do?" Gone was all thought of what had happened; Amanda scooted forward on the bed, eyes wide and expression full of gleeful curiosity. "Not Marie - she would have told me. Who with?"
"Marie? Man, you're as bad as my dad. No, Marie and I are friends, period." Kane said, shaking his head with a laugh. "I managed to convince the pretty red-headed doctor lady out for dinner. I think. I'm not sure what the date is going to be."
"Jean? Very nice. She's very much a hottie." Amanda nodded her approval. "What do you have planned?"
"A date. No location or specific day. Apparently, New York neary being blown up, her fighting Marauders and me being beaten to crap have things on hold for a moment."
Amanda blew a raspberry at him. "I meant what sort of date. Dinner and a movie? Drinks and a romantic walk? Ice skating in the Rockefeller Centre? Sky-diving?"
"No idea. We have spectacularly failed at planning. I'm leaning towards letting her decide so whatever I choose doesn't seem old and stodgy."
"Well, once you have made a plan, let me know if I can help with the atmosphere. New York so owes me right now, I could probably get you a full fireworks show when you do the kissing thing."
"Calm down, 7th and 42nd. It's just a first date for now. I don't want to spook her."
"Bah. Spoilsport." There was no seriousness in Amanda's response - the suggestion had been purely a silly one. Garrison was one of the few people she could indulge her silly side with. "I'm glad, tho', that you're doing this. You both deserve something positive."
"Don't cheer yet. I've got plenty of time to screw it up before it happens." He said wryly.
