Mad dogs and English(wo)men...
Jul. 12th, 2004 08:59 pmThere's this old song that gets quote a lot back home, 'bout how mad dogs an' Englishmen go out in the midday sun. To do with the whole 'must go out whenever it's sunny and roast myself red and peeling' thing we tend to do whenever there's more than ten minutes' continuous sunshine. I'm no different - but I think I'm starting to see a point to this whole sunscreen and hat business. Red had me helping out with some fence repair down in one of the far fields, and a couple of hours in the sun in a tank top has left my shoulders and face a lovely shade of brick red.
Ow.
Still wouldn't have it any other way, tho'. I've never been one for sitting around doing nothing, even before I was on the streets and it's good to get out and into the fresh air and work with me hands. No magic at all. Well, except that once when Red and me both had our hands full and he needed a bit of wood and it was out of reach. Surprised him when I floated it over; I think he'd forgotten I was a mutant in the first place. So I got to explain the whole magic thing, and all he did was shrug and say the horses had good taste in people and if I was all right by them, I was all right by him. Got to like someone who sees the world like that.
Now to do me Mandarin homework - Arabic's done, and I've mostly-translated another couple of pages of the book Dom and Nate got for me, the herbal one. Just need to run a couple of things past him. Have to say, the homework's been pretty easy so far. And no, Nate, I don't need harder. Not with that herbal book. ;) After I do a spot of healign on meself - besides the sunburn I've got a couple of nasty blisters on me hands, and they're making writing tricky.
