Problem solved and I'm actually back in New York.

Hey, I made it my resolution to drink less this year!

No one ever sticks those things. If they were going to stick them then they wouldn't wait for the 1st to make them in the first place.

That makes no sense to me. Why would the fact that I make the decision on the first day of the year mean I'm less likely to stick with it than if I'd made it some other day?

Because if you were that serious about the change it wouldn't take a silly thing like a New Year's Resolution for you to institute it. What sort of shoddy motivating factor is that?

Well, there's a difference in my mind between wanting to change and needing to change. If my drinking was a problem and I needed to change, then yes I wouldn't wait until New Year's to say I was going to change. But it's just something I'm taking on for personal betterment. So the date I start is irrelevant, really. It's actually helpful because you have the motivation behind you of knowing that a lot of other people are also trying to better themselves and that you can do a better job and last longer at it than them. This needs to be moved to email :P Or a suite. Because this so totally requires a much more lengthy conversation.

You are welcome to come over and explain to me how New Year's resolutions are a competitive sport while I unpack, if you'd like.

Don't try and tell me they're NOT a competitive sport. Have you never been to a gym the first two weeks of January? I am coming over. Will even be quiet so I don't disturb your invalid. I'd suggest coming over here but I'm sick of the Wii. I think I need new games.

I don't exactly go to gyms, do I?

My "invalid" is out cold most of the time, attempting to read or very politely attempting to request food the rest of the time. You don't need to tone it down for her.

Said invalid even has access to a laptop from time to time. Although this incessant napping is stopping me from being very talkative.

I think you need incessant napping. You're wrapped too tightly the rest of the time. The napping will help you relax. I say this out of love, of course.

It has been quite wonderful just being able to sleep without worrying that I'm letting someone down somewhere.

I'm not sure that says anything good about my overdeveloped sense of responsibility. Especially since I don't think anyone ever told me that I had to never call in sick to anything.

Maybe we should tie you down and explain how to be a teenager to you.

Oh, I don't know. I think some of my various stupid decisions over the past months have shown well how much of a teenager I am. Or so the books on psychology I've been reading say.

(I should probably just leave it to Samson, shouldn't I?)

Aye, love, leave the diagnosing to the trained, licensed professional. Besides, if the only proof of teenage actions are your stupidity then that's shoddy, don't you think? Why take on all the negatives, none of the positives and try to play mini-adult atop it all? Clearly you need to be reeducated.
