No point in hiding any more
Jun. 1st, 2004 09:29 pmSince the secret's out, there's no point in trying to hide it any more. Alison, any chance we could go shopping tomorrow afternoon after I get back from Stonewall? There's a swimsuit that needs buying - learning to swim in shorts and t-shirt is bloody difficult. Just... nothing too skimpy, all right? Hell will freeze over before I ever get into a bikini.
Re: Drat.
Date: 2004-06-01 07:45 pm (UTC)And I don't think I or anyone else expects me to be friends with everyone here, but having at least one or two seems to be expected. And they all seem to do it so effortlessly.
I don't like having limits.
And yeah, it seems that I am picking up your bloody slang. That's probably not a good thing. I don't have an accent. You folks are all mush-mouthed to my ear.

Re: Drat.
Date: 2004-06-01 07:53 pm (UTC)As for how easy people seem to make friends... that one's a mystery for me. Never had the knack of it meself, but somehow I still managed.
Even when I didn't want to.When I work out why myself, I'll let you know.Their limits, not yours.
*giggles* You do have an accent. So do the Americans, and Frenchie and Shiro. And why do you think it's called "English"? It's our bloody language, after all, so we get to say the rest of you have an accent.
Besides, it's cute when you say "shirty". I'm just waiting for the day you say "bollocks", then you definitely have been spending too much time with me.
*snickers*
Date: 2004-06-01 07:57 pm (UTC)And yes, it's a good manners thing. We'll bring you up to speed soon enough, although I doubt you'll like it much.
And is it _possible_ for me to spend too much time around you?
Manuel
Re: *snickers*
Date: 2004-06-01 08:01 pm (UTC)In that case, which do you listen to?
It depends.
Date: 2004-06-01 08:03 pm (UTC)In this case, a limited, valuable resource (home-made cookies) in exchange for - friendliness? A conversation? Pity?
Note that I protested, you offered again, and then I accepted. I just haven't been by to claim it yet.
Manuel
Re: It depends.
Date: 2004-06-01 08:06 pm (UTC)Cookies are more valuable when shared. That is what they are for, secondarily. (First, they are for eating. Second, for sharing. Third for crumbling up and leaving in people's beds, but only ooky cinnamon cookies are for that.)
If you say so.
Date: 2004-06-01 08:08 pm (UTC)I never got cookies from either of my parents. And sharing them? Unlikely. Is that like a business meeting? I've been to plenty of those, and there was usually alcohol at the least, and food sometimes.
Manuel
Re: If you say so.
Date: 2004-06-01 08:10 pm (UTC)NEVER?
Okay, you must understand that I am staring at my screen in disbelief.
*stops to think*
Date: 2004-06-01 08:12 pm (UTC)Never.
That's not the way we were. If I was a good boy, I could sit in the corner while Alphonso met with the King, or if I was extra-good, I could go play with the Crown Prince.
Or I could go for swims in the Med, or go out to a club, or something like that.
Cookies? I don't think so.
Manuel

Date: 2004-06-01 08:18 pm (UTC)I suppose perhaps it is a financial thing? It just...
Something about the way you say these things bothers me on a core level. I cannot put words to it.

(And I'd say you're trying to charm me again with that last bit, aren't you?)
Alphonso
Date: 2004-06-01 08:06 pm (UTC)And I can't be Rotten - I've got this thing about inserting safety pins into my anatomy. Not really my style.
It will probably be refreshing and new if you stayed the gutter-snipe that you are when you meet him. Watching him flounder for a few sentences should be fun.
Manuel
Guttersnipe?
Date: 2004-06-01 09:19 pm (UTC)Lovely.
Date: 2004-06-02 06:38 am (UTC)And I'll need to give you a few phrases in Basque for the greeting. That will impress him, set him up nicely for your little guttersnipe revelation.
Manuel
I can do that
Date: 2004-06-02 02:37 pm (UTC)Re: Drat.
Date: 2004-06-01 08:03 pm (UTC)A bit anyway? Jamie and Doug's are almost similar. Sam and Paige have that .. what is the term for that? Where all their a-sounds are elongated? Angelo, Jubilee, and Lorna all sound different, even though they came from the same state.
Re: Drat.
Date: 2004-06-01 08:12 pm (UTC)Re: Drat.
Date: 2004-06-01 08:15 pm (UTC)Then, perhaps I am not the best judge of Frence accents, as I cannot hear my own. Doug likes to try to point it out and imitate it from time to time, and that helps, but I still can never -hear- it.
Re: Drat.
Date: 2004-06-01 09:12 pm (UTC)Mine changes sometimes, depending on who I'm talking to. Not so much here, since I've yet to meet someone from the West Country or Yorkshire, but apparently I mimic those when I'm drinking with peopel from there. And there's "BBC Standard" as well, which I only use if I'm taking the mickey.
Re: Drat.
Date: 2004-06-01 09:14 pm (UTC)You do not even use the same words for things.
Taking the mickey?
Re: Drat.
Date: 2004-06-01 09:22 pm (UTC)Taking the mickey - means, pulling your leg. Taking the piss. I used to do the BBC thing when I wanted to put people off balance. They look at me and expect the rough language and accent, so sometimes I like to switch and keep them on their toes. And besides, "fuck" sounds funny when you say it all prim and proper.
Re: Drat.
Date: 2004-06-01 09:42 pm (UTC)I am told that 'fuck' sounds hilarious with my accent. At least, Doug seems to think so.
